A few weeks ago I was at the Waco Cultural Arts Festival and before the “doors” opened a volunteer came into my shop. She looked at my work, and admired a hat in her hands and then spotted the button on the back, stitched with red thread and she said “hmmm, now where are you from?”  “Denton” I replied.. and the conversation was on. She had purchased a hat years ago when I had just started making them- I actually remembered the style (cake) and colors (black and black). What she spotted though, that let her know it was the one and the same craftsperson was the button, stitched with red thread.  Even though, as the seasons change my work has changed- sometimes with completely new products, and sometimes with just an update of a design- one thing that has remained the same is that button. It was good to know that the hat she purchased years ago has held up nicely and is still getting used, but it was even better to know the the button had opened the door to a reconnection. So, look for it- it will be on every Cimarrona hat that goes out into the world.
